Photodynamic therapy combines a photosensitizing solution with controlled light exposure to target damaged or abnormal skin cells. Once the solution is absorbed into the skin, a special light activates it to selectively destroy unhealthy cells while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.
Advance Skin Rejuvenation
Treating Sun Damage & Precancerous Skin
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a highly effective treatment that targets damaged and abnormal skin cells while helping improve overall skin health and appearance. At Green Dermatology & Cosmetic Center we commonly use it to treat actinic keratosis and sun-damaged skin, but PDT can also enhance skin tone, texture, and clarity, making it an excellent option for both medical and cosmetic skin concerns.
What It Treats:
-
Actinic keratosis
-
Sun damage
-
Uneven skin tone and texture
-
Oily or acne-prone skin

Frequently Asked Questions
We typically recommend treatment with photodynamic therapy in Deerfield Beach for our patients with significant sun damage or actinic keratoses, which are considered precancerous skin lesions. In addition to treating damaged skin, many of our patients also notice improvements in overall skin tone, texture, and clarity after treatment.
Following your treatment, it’s normal for your skin to appear red, flaky, or sensitive for several days while it heals. We typically advise our patients to avoid direct sunlight immediately after treatment and for up to 2 days after, because the skin becomes temporarily more sensitive to light exposure.
