FAQs about wart removal using Swift treatment

wart on child's hand

Warts on the feet, also known as verruca’s, are extremely common. Nevertheless, they can be painful and debilitating. Many people experience discomfort when they compress the sides of the wart, scabbing and bleeding, and even poor sensation in their feet, and this can affect their ability to do some day-to-day activities.

Swift is an FDA-approved technology solution that is proven to be extremely effective in the removal of plantar warts. These are warts that are found on the balls or heels of the feet, and which are caused by HPV (human papilloma virus). What makes these types of warts particularly challenging is that they grow into the foot, making them difficult to treat purely from the surface.

Here’s what you need to know about wart removal using Swift treatment.

How Does Swift Work?

Swift works by using low-dose energy that targets the HPV virus. As the energy passes into the foot via a special probe, it stimulates the immune system to attack the virus, destroying it and the warts that it causes. This is the most effective treatment since it targets the underlying cause of the warts, rather than just the warts themselves.

How Many Swift Treatments am I Likely to Need?

Most patients find that they need between two and four treatments to completely eradicate their warts. Each treatment usually lasts just five minutes, and you will need to wait up to two to four weeks between appointments so that your immune system can fight the virus and destroy it.

Is Swift Wart Removal Painful?

There is a small amount of discomfort associated with Swift wart removal. Exactly how much discomfort is experienced varies between patients, but anesthesia isn’t needed and any pain subsides as soon as the probe used to perform the treatment is removed. There is also virtually no post-procedure discomfort.

Will I Need to Protect My Feet After Each Appointment?

Swift treatment doesn’t break the surface of the skin, which means that no bandages are needed. You don’t need to give your feet any special aftercare and you should be able to go about your usual activities.

Is There Anyone That isn’t a Suitable Candidate for Swift Treatment?

Swift is a highly effective and safe treatment. However, it’s not necessarily the right solution for every patient. It is typically not recommended for use on patients with diabetes, who have implanted electronic devices or electrodes, or for use close to metallic objects such as metal foot implants. It’s also not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or people with immune suppression.

Will My Wart Come Back?

Once a wart that is treated using Swift has been eradicated, usually it won’t come back. However, it isn’t possible to guarantee this, and you may potentially need further Swift treatment down the line if you experience a wart again in the future.
